Have you discussed your daughter's refusal to wear her dentures with her dentist? I don't have any professional or personal experience with your daughter's condition, but it seems to me that as her dental caregiver, it might be important for him/her to know, since it could affect her treatment. The dentist treating her probably also would be your best source of information regarding any effects (structural or otherwise) that might result if she does not wear her dentures. At 16, she might still be a child in some ways — but she's not too young to learn about personal responsibility. Ultimately, it is she that will suffer any consequences her actions may bring on. It's tough to be a Mom, I know. But since she's too old to hold down forcibly while you insert the dentures your options are limited. Personally, since I believe punishment or withholding unrelated privileges generally are ineffective in the long run, I probably would focus my efforts on impressing her with the facts (both physical and social) and stressing the importance of personal responsibility.
