She is undergoing a very difficult time, I think all patients with dentures suffer through a period where they know they need to wear their dentures but there is a certain feel about empty gums that can be nice too. The social ramifications of not having teeth and being so young will convince her to wear them. There is also a compenent of your life that is disrupted by this situation. You want to do the best for her and at the same time do not want people questioning your parenting skills. People make unfair assumptions about people who wear dentures- to the person who has few dental issues, dentures are directly related in their minds to neglect. They cannot think of a single reason all of a persons teeth have to be removed. Do not be too hard on her, she probably has no one in her peer group who has been through this and may not have anyone else to talk to about it. I have worn dentures for a long time starting with a partial when I was in college. I've had time to learn to live with dentures, she is just starting out. Give it time. Barbara
