Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

    Bridge question.

Posted by Denise on 7/27/2009, 5:56 pm

I just got a 5 tooth bridge put on last week and I'm sure that there's an open margin on my canine. This dentist has had to re-do this bridge many times and I've always had to get a second opinion because he swears that it's fine when I know there's something wrong. This time I think that the bridge actually fit well, at least it felt good before he cemented it on. Before he cemented it he packed my gum with cord to make sure that it went on perfectly but when he started pushing the bridge up he started struggling to get the cord out which seemed to be stuck in the glue. He immediately stopped pushing up on the front of the bridge while he continued to struggle to get the cord out.He never even had me bite down on anything. I was so hopefull that this would be the one but this was obviously not good. The dentist had his assistant clean out the glue and he came back to make an adjustment to my bite, which I barely needed before he cemented it on. Now he had to grind down a lot. He even started grinding on my lower caps. While grinding he even made a comment about not pushing it up as high as before(when it wasn't cemented on yet). Also my floss goes in and out between my natural tooth and my bridge without any resistance but when he tried it on, it was perfect.I went home hoping that it would be fine. I was so glad to be done with this. The next day my gums around my canine were still bothering me, kind of like when I had a gap there on a previous bridge. I put my nail under my gums and slid it between my existing tooth and the top of the bridge that is supposed to be sealed to it. I was sick all weekend waiting to talk to my dentist knowing that he would say it's fine, and he did. He stuck his metal poker in there to see if it was open and it didn't go in like my nail did. My nails are very thin!He also took an x-ray but they don't show the margin around the front. I just know that my nail still slides all the way in and I feel the top and bottom that should be glued together. If I go get a second opinion, they wont be able to get their poker in there either, maybe a tiny bit but maybe not. I know they wont stick their nail in there and I'm sure they're not paper thin like mine. Maybe it's ok that it's open since it's such a thin opening? I almost want to just forget about it and get on with my life. Does anyone have any advice for me, or know if my bridge can be ok with such a thin opening,it is under my gums, maybe it will be protected from bacteria under there???
