To be honest, Dawn . . . maybe because I've never had a partial . . I'm finding it difficult to picture what your dentist has proposed.
But if your question is whether or not an all-porcelain device will be stronger than the temp, the answer is "yes." The purpose of a temp is just to serve as a prototype (or model) of the finished product. As such, it also can be modified as needed until you and your dentist agree on how the finished product should look. But it doesn't have to be as strong as the permanent crowns to accomplish that.
Although I have crowns on all 4 top front teeth (one implant crown and three regular ones) they are all independent of each other. But the temps were fused together (like a bridge) for the same reason your dentist has offered: i.e., to provide greater strength to the temps, because the acrylic of which they were made might not be strong enough to hold up for the pressures those front teeth would be exposed to.
The part of your description I'm having most trouble understanding are the second and third sentences, which state:
<<My dentist will be making me a new partial and placing pontics (tooth) on both sides of the the canines. He told me he would rather make the whole piece connect to keep my two front teeth from separating later on.>>
It's really not important that I understand what he means by making the whole piece connect (e.g., connect the partial to the crowns?) . . . as long as you and your dentist both have the same understanding and agree on it. But any time I hear of a dentist suggesting a span of 6 or more teeth, I can't help wondering about the strength of such a long "string" of connected teeth.
