Hi Cindy.
I am a full denture wearer since dec 2005 when I got all teeth pulled at the age of 18.
I had a genetic defect so the teeth were all bad and chipped.
I knew I had to have dentures early but not this early. I was extremely nervous about it , but the dentist told me I would be fine after some weeks.
What I can tell you is that the upper dentures normally give little problems and regarding sleeping my dentist said its alright sleeping with them as far as you clean them thoroughly morning and evening before going to bed. I sleep with mine and it alright to have them in all day. I just take them out when I have an opportunity and can go days and weeks without having them out for as much as 4 hours . So do not be nervous about that.
Cindy try to be open about your condition of not having teeth. It is a shock to see yourself without the first time and so did I but I did look at myself every time I brushed my dentures and gums and made faces and got used to the toothless look and ou will get used to it . Just do not hide yourself from looking at yourself in the mirror.
Be open with your husband when you have been used to yourself as toothless. If he asks to see you without do it . Its because he cares and it will help your self esteem a lot. It did to me. I have now a bf and I was afraid myself and got these advice and it really helps. You need not tell everyone you hahve dentures. Nobody needs to know . But your husband is so close and I think it should be normal to let him see you for example if you want to rest the gums or soak the dentures or even sleep with them out.
The dentures are your teeth as much as your normal teeth wereand so are your gums. Without teeth ou are the same person as before as much as you are with dentures.
Upper dentures will be so good for you if you had problems before. I can eat corn on the cob and apples.
Just do not despair if you are sore the first weeks thats normal. You will even forget about the dentures during the day after a while.
You will detect that your voice sounds different (might do), but that is only you that hear that. Other people will not hear any change. It is only that the sound vibrations in the skull is different when you have the palate of the dentures that changes the propagation of the sound vibrations.
Dentures are not the end of the world but a relief for you and I am a young and very happy denture wearer.
Good luck
vendela
