5 minutes to do a root canal sent up a RED FLAG ! I've only had a couple of root canals and I can tell you it lasted at least 1/2 hour. He should have taken before and after xrays, did he? I would be concerned that he missed a canal. Anytime you don't feel comfortable with a dentist go get a second opinion. A cracked molar sometimes will still cause pain even after a root canal, depending on how far the crack goes (ie., along the root) which would make the tooth then unstable when you bite down. Many dentists then recommend extraction. But cracks are not always visible, hence, they recommend the less drastic measure of crowning the tooth to stabilize it.
