Talking with an upper denture takes very little time to get used to. It will resonate different to you, but most people won't notice a difference. Just keep talking outloud to yourself to get used to it.
Most people may think you just had regular dental work done...no need to tell them it is a denture. Dentures do not carry the same negativity as you may think though. It is far better for you to have a healthy mouth finally and good bite than worry about the phobia about having a denture.
Personally, if I had a husband/significant other who couldn't accept seeing me when the teeth are pulled, I'd think they are shallow. Don't let your own vanity stand between you and a healthy mouth and lovely smile and ability to eat right again.
You need to have sufficient time with your denture out and it seems nightime is the best as you can't do it during your workday...it is not good to wear them 24/7.
