Re: bad smell and pain from crown

If that question was directed to me, as most people in this forum know, I've had no problems at all with the implant I received in 2003 . . . and have absolutely no regrets.
But I also would not necessarily say I would "recommend it to any or everyone."
In the first place, not everyone is a suitable candidate for an implant. A reputable dentist will assess your individual situation and advise you if an implant is appropriate or not.
In some cases, the implant site must first be modified (e.g, the jawbone built up enough to support the implant or sinuses lifted to make room).
Such steps may sound complicated to a patient who has never had an implant, but they really now are quite routine — as is the implant procedure itself.
Actually, before believing all those "bad things" you've heard, you might want to stop and consider the fact that implants have been available and used for almost 60 years.
For them to have become increasingly valuable as a dental option, doesn't that suggest to you that most problems that may have shown up as the procedure was perfected have been resolved and made implants even safer and more effective?
The best antidote to concerns about implants is an understanding of the procedure. With so much detailed information available on the internet (including I would guess, under the "Procedures" heading on this website), it's easy to bone up on the facts. (Sorry, no pun intended).
But once you have a sense of what steps are involved, it probably would be worth your while to consult an implant specialist — both to clarify any lingering questions you may have, as well as to determine your candidacy.
