Bonding question

I had a bit of bonding done this morning by my dentist. My gumline had receded on one tooth and it was getting very sensitive.

My question is that the surface of the tooth feels rough. Does this eventually get back to being a smooth tooth? Or should my dentist have polished it more?

It feels as if I have food crusted to the outside of it.
