Re: full mouth extraction and immediate full dentures

As usual, Barbara has offered a wholesome, but realistic picture of how dentures can affect one's life, in both positive and negative ways.
It sounds like you you and your family already have had the initial diagnosis confirmed, but since total extraction is irreversible, if I (or one of our kids) were faced with the same prognosis, I certainly would get at least 1-2 more opinions from dentists (or maybe even maxillofacial surgeons), who specialize in reconstruction broken facial bone.
Although you've been told that your daughter can still get implants later, personally, I would question how realistic that statement is. While it's true that further deterioration probably would take a while, the absence of teeth in that bone could hasten the process. And under those conditions, the cost of implants could be astronomical
Conversely, of course, it's also possible that as time goes on, the dental insurance industry may wake up and realize that as the population ages, implants may be the key not only to saving teeth for their members, but a cost-saving strategy for their companies, as well. But by the time that happens, your daughter may be resigned to wearing dentures and reluctant to reopen old physical and/or emotional wounds. And as Barbara has said, as good as dentures can be, natural teeth are even better.
Finally, I also agree with Barbara about the support your daughter may find in this forum. Several years ago, their was a young girl in England who shared her heartbreaking story about the shame and pain of having to attend high school with no teeth at all. (I don't remember all the details, but vaguely recall that they may have been removed because her family could not afford to have them repaired. When she finally received dentures they were uncomfortable, so she gave up on them, until eventually she received new ones thru the country's national Health Service.
Never having had a date, she eventually was befriended by a young man who frequented the cafe in which she worked part- time and provided emotional support while she tried to adjust to her new dentures. Soon afterward she announced their impending marriage and later the birth of their first child.
Although her story probably is no longer in this forum's archives, that of the young girl Barbara referred to is. Her name is Vendela . . . and she can exactly the kind of emotional support your daughter need right now.
Although she's as regular participant and may be reading messages every day, it also sounds like she has a busy schedule, so only responds when she feels her comments will be helpful. But when she does her outlook is both amazing and inspiring.
My suggestion, therefore is that you post a new message addressed to her (in capital letters). If she spots it, I'm sure your daughter will find her comments helpful.
