Re: full mouth extraction and immediate full dentures

Posted by Val on 9/15/2009, 4:06 am, in reply to "full mouth extraction and immediate full dentures"

Hi all and thanks for the thoughts and comments.

We were at the dental school yesterday and my daghter were seen by three specialists. We were there nearly the whole day having all sorts of assessments and even samples or biopsees taken.

They were very positive that we had had two opinions after the first dentist. They were very kind to my daughter and never told her anything about having destroyed her teeth only comforting comments.

The conclusion was that all teeth even the molars had started to loosen and they showed me that there were mobility in the teeth.
The teeth themselves were very thin especially the front teeth except of course the two that broke.

So, the verdict was that it would be the best for her to have the full mouth extraction and dentures as implants would be way over our financing capability.

They said that they could do the treatment and they could do it sequential or all extractions and fitting the same day.

What was interesting was the mental development my daughter had gone through this time because she was very calm and understanding and chose the all in one go alternative.

They took impressions and a lot of other measurements and pictures, bite registrations, colour and shape of the teeth etc.
They said that if she wanted they could do the full thing tomorrow which she chose.
They told that it seemed from the x-rays and because the teeth had started to loosen there would most probably not be any traumatic extractions.

So now we are sure that we are not doing anything wrong for her.

They told us that she would have good gums and her bone density was very good so most probably the shrinking after a year would be slower for her and that she would keep good gums for a long time.
Astonishing enough my daughter told she was enlightened now that the diagnosis had a conclusion and looked forward to getting this over with.

They told her very acccurately what could be expected just after extractions and what she had to expect in in the future.

They were very explicit in telling her that she should go for a checkup every year to ensure good fit and that a change of dentures would be necessary every 5-7 years or a good rebase.
Well that was our visit and to morrow a new life will start for her
