Re: Root cancal and crown

Hi Nancy,
The prices you mentioned are in the ballpark. It does matter some, costwise, if your root canal is done by a general dentist or an endodontist. I had a root canal/crown dome in April and the approx. fees were .... root canal by endo, $1100 and crown, by general dentist, $900. The thing is these are cash prices. If a patient has dental insurance the company has already set a max price they will pay. If a dentist participates in the plan, they have already agreed to these prices.
For example, I had a crown placed about a month ago. The dentist charged $995. The insurance company pre set amount for the crown was $650. So, I paid a $325 copay and the insurance paid $325 and that was it. Now, a person without dental insurance is always charged the full amount when no insurance company will ever pay that. Since, in my case, the dentist was satisfied with the $650 why can't they charge an uninsured patient the lower amount? It is only the poor cash payer who is charged full prices.
Francis
