    Re: Front teeth

    I agree with island girl . . . to a point.

To some extent, it probably depends on the size/shape of your mouth . . . as well as adjacent teeth. That might be why he made them a little shorter. Then again, the size and shape of the adjacent teeth also might have been a consideration. But either way, if it were my dentist, I would have expected him to discuss all options with me before proceeding.

But in response to your question . . . the Golden Proportion is based on a principle called the Fibonacci series (named after the Italian mathematician who discovered it in the 18th century)

In nature, examples can be found in the spirals of a head of sunflowers, butterfly wings , the Pyramids of /Egypt, etc.

In dentistry, dentists use this principle as a guide is a guide for to determine the amount of tooth people see when you smile.

Sometimes they may use other guides, such as the width of the face divided by 16 and the length of the face divided by 16, which will then correspond to the width and length of the tooth.

A 75%-80% ratio of length to width is another guide sometimes used.

Although I'm familiar with the concept, I'm not a dental professional — so find interpreting the math part too complex to spend time on.

But there's lots of information on the concept online. Just Google for: <Dentistry Golden Proportion.>

Most of the above came from:
