Get a new dentist!
The only problem I see with composite fillings in when they do the actual work putting them in, it is extremely important no saliva get in before its cured or dried. That may be why the filling fell out. Mine have lasted for over 20 years! My amalgams also lasted for a long long time. But my dentist says composites are better because they strengthen a tooth rather than weaken it, something to do with how its bonded onto the tooth.
I also had a problem with a side filling once, the floss getting shredded there. They fixed it with some sanding in between the tooth...at least thats what I think they did (I'm not a professional) but it worked.
