    Resin v amalgam

Both the chemistry and the mechanics of resion v amalgam restorations are quite different.
    * Resin fillings do not require an undercut to hold them in place.
    * Resin fillings physically bond with the tooth and form a stronger restoration
    * Resin fillings require considerably more skill and time to install

    * Amalgam fillings do not bond with the tooth and require an undercut or retention groove to hold them in place after they harden
    * Amalgam fillings are cheaper and require less skill for placement
