Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

    Re: Unreasonable and Possible?

Mine, too! . . . though not for the same reasons.

In addition to a crown rplacement on #7 and two new optional ones on #8 and #10, my dental project included an immediate-loading implant on #9, which had to be expanded gradually over the following month.

Although ultimately I received 4 individual crowns, the temps were fused together like a bridge. It looked so great, I was reluctant to trade it in for permanent crowns, on the chance that they would not look as good,.

Also, because my dental work stemmed from an emergency, I had gotten a late start on whitening my teeth (before selecting a color for the new crowns), so it ended up taking closer to 6 weeks before they could be ordered.

But even after the new crowns were placed, my dentist still used a temporary cement, which held them in place for more than 2 years, until the site could fully heal and further enhancements could be done on those front teeth.

In other words, it sounds like your dentist is not only looking for an easy way out . . . but possibly out-of-step with all the others who routinely use temporary cement for extended periods of time.

The sticking point for you, however, is that apparently — even though you did not have a chance to think about how they looked, when asked, you unwittingly agreed that they were OK.

Had your dentist been one who routinely used temporary cement, it would not have been a problem — but since he did not, removing and replacing them is a stickier situation (no pun intended).

If I were in your shoes, if there were no question that I had approved the bridge, I'd probably bone up on the various types of dental cement available and try to get some sense of the percentage of dentists that use temporary versions at least initially; then try to argue that given that opportunity, I would have realized my dissatisfaction and discussed it sooner.
