Hi Tracy,
I asked the same ? some months ago and got a yes it is possible. I have similar ideas for the future to have a couple of implants lower up front to support partial of 7 units. I have a full upper first placed 50 years ago and very little probs. with. I also have a temporary partial for 4 front and that is not much of a problem either. I will get the permanent in a couple months after I more fully recover from recent major surgery for an intestinal infection.
Mini implants are a consideration; cheaper by far and less invasive, etc. check it out via search here and internet.
