Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

    Bridge nightmare

Posted by Regina on 10/6/2009, 7:36 pm

I have had my bridge back to the lab at least -5 times...I initially had 4 beautiful porcelain crowns which included my 2 front teeth and 2 next to each of them I believe they were done by Mac Labs in calif. and they were Empress. I wanted a longer fuller smile. One of the front teeth chipped (about a yr. later) and my dentist said the two front teeth were too long) In the meantime I needed a root canal, lost a front tooth and needed a bridge which included the 2 front teeth and the tooth to the left of my center tooth. My dentist choose a lava bridge and made my bridge extremely thick - (he said to support the length) I coould barely speak...I complained that they were too thick so he shortened them...I now HATE them and I feel they are too short and too boxy - He will not make them any longer -- I now feel I have a too short and too thick bridge and on top of it the LAVA bridge does not match the rest of my other crowns which are all empress I told him that I realized they cant be as long as they were but I believe you made them too short and he said that is as long as I am able too have them. I told him that I felt it was the thickness I was complaining about not the length and he said it was "both". I researched "proper length of teeth on the Internet and it said that when the lip is relaxed the front teeth should show a little..mine doo not!!!. He didnt say anything. I also told him that when I smile there is a space between my bottom lip and the bottom of my teeth and there shouldnt be and it wasnt there before (according to all my old pics and the articles I read on the Internet) and he said well that means there too long and gave me some reasons that did not make sense to me) Do you think I should just tell him that I want them longer and that if they chip I will take full responsibility?? I realize they cant be the 75% ratio or whatever it was before but I cant live with them the way he wants me to. What are your opinions? Is this my right? He did make the temps a tad longer and they seem fine so far. Before I left he told me that I would be back telling him that they are too long> Am I being unreasonable? This all started for cosmetic purposes. BTW He is replacing this bridge free of charge b/c he never made me a night guard so I cant help but feel somehow a mistake was made or this would not be free of charge?? Please advise me as to what to do I get a stomaache every time I have to go in there. . thanks
