Re: Root Canal on front teeth

    Hi, Robin . . .

I'm joining the discussion as little late, but just wanted to expand a little on Gelia's as-usual helpful input.

As I think she was alluding to when she asked if you were sure you would be receiving crowns on your front teeth, I think that's a question worth asking your dentist.

While root canaled teeth usually are crowned, those particular teeth sometimes are the exceptions. It may depend on the health of the teeth (i.e., in some cases, crowning them presents cosmetic issues, so why do it if not absolutely necessary? . . . but also, since crowns are a profit-maker for dentists, why not recommend them, even if they aren't needed immediately?)

Conversely, if there's any hint that the teeth are not in good condition or attractive, crowning them could protect them from future breakage or present an opportunity to improve their appearance.

As for those molars, PFMs probably are the most popular cosmetic choice, but even though I don't have them myself, I've noticed that gold crowns also are not passe. Some dentists still recommend them and patients choose them because they are easy on neighboring teeth and gums, long-lasting and generally problem-free..
