Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

Tooth removal or Root canal for my 5 yr old son

My son is having tooth issues in his back chewing teeth. He will be turning 6 in Feb. I have been told that the back teeth are until age 12 or 13, and then they get new teeth. Doctor wanted to do a root canal on him - which is going to cost $1200. A friend of mine suggested having that tooth taken out since he will get a new tooth anywayz. What should I do? Suggestions please.
