root canal?

can I get a composite veener instead of a cap/crown after I get my root canal? And I have another question i chipped my tooth all the way to the gum and it's like one inch but its still strong but infected a little do i need an implant or should i ask for a root canal? I'd rather get a root canal and it's a little less expensive too. thanks!
