Hi, Dentures are not the end of the world. They do take some getting used to but if you have a skilled dentist and you go about this with the right frame of mind. You can overcome any adversity. I am 51 and have had full dentures since I was 36. It needed to be done and I know I made the right decision. My advice is to learn as much as you can about dentures before the big day, learn about your dentist and what his/her denture experience is like- meaning does he/she do a lot of denture work. Ask to see pictures of actual patients. Talk to friends and relatives who either wear dentures or know someone who does. And most important is to get the entire plan in writing including all costs and the costs of extra services. Ask what exactly your money is buying- are relines and adjustments included? Will this be the only set of dentures they provide in the first year to 18 months? Some practices provide an immediate set to be put in as soon as the teeth are removed and then a new set after healing and shrinkage has taken place. As far as pain from extractions, it is managable with medication and ice. There is a learning curve to get used to your new teeth but worth the effort. You are young enough to adapt quickly and young enough to enjoy the rest of your life. Feel free to ask me anything Barbara
