Hi Vivian. I am sorry that you have problem with the teeth.
I agree with Barbara. I am much younger than you and got full dentures in dec 2005 when I was 18 years old. I can tell you that needing dentures sees no age at all. There are many reasons for having teeth extracted and getting dentures. Mine was a genetic defect which made the teeth deteriorate and it was impossible to clean teeth and gums so the dentist strongly recommended the teeth to be pulled to save the bone in the jaws.
Getting the message makes you react and its a hard load to be aware of losing teeth which is a part of the body. The thoughts and anxiety was for me a problem but the dentist helped me with informing me about the whole process.
Just be aware of a discomfort periodeafter the extraction and it will soon be better and after a month or so you will feel much better and can eat more normal food. after 3 months the gums have healed quite well and now the shrinking process will slow down and stabilize when it is a year. But much before that you will function well and even forget about havingentures during the day. The dentures will be a part of you.
I am today a very happy denture wearer and have no problems with them.
Dentures are not the end of the world and far from it. It is much better than having painful bad teeth, and as a bonus you will feel generally better healthwise.
I wish you good luck.
Oh I will teel you what my dentist told me. It is important to pull bad teeth before they will destroy the bone too much.
