Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

Doctor recommends lighter shade of crown, but I think they look fakey

Posted by Kyle on 10/27/2009, 8:29 pm

    Hello,
I am having my front six teeth crowned, when the crowns came back from the lab the doctor placed them in temporarily and I felt they looked too white. I recently had the rest of my teeth whitened by a process called "Zoom" and am a heavy smoker.
I suggested we back it down a shade to match the rest of the teeth. He is urging me to go with the brighter shade. His explanation being that all the front teeth are being done and you shouldn't be able to see much of a difference between the top and bottom teeth (I have a bad over bite), however, I am concerned that when I laugh or smile with my mouth open that it will be noticeable. Also, am I looking at them and inspecting them too closely, will other people not pay as much attention or focus on them as much as I am? Maybe I'm just psyching myself out?
The crowns didn't seat properly so he had to send them all back to the lab and told me I had to make a final decision by tomorrow. Should I trust his professional opinion or my gut?
Any feedback from people who have had a similar situation would be so much appreciated.
    Thank you.
