Hi, Kyle . . .
You didn't mention whether or not you had an opportunity to view the crowns in different lighting. Hopefully you did, because crowns can look substantially different inside a room with artificial or fluorescent lighting . . . outdoors in natural light . . . in a darkened restaurant or bar . . . etc.
Also, while natural teeth do tend to be a little darker as they progress from the front teeth to the rear ones, that's not quite the same as top, front teeth looking brighter than opposing lower ones — even if you do have an overbite.
Personally, I'd probably feel a little nervous if a dentist tried to persuade me to get used to something as important as my smile — especially if I was uncomfortable with the color of my crowns. I might feel differently if he at least suggested that I try them for a while before making a final decision. With the pressure for a an immediate decision delayed, you might find you really like the color he recommended after all.
I don't know how helpful it will be, but here is one suggestion I've heard about selecting a color for crowns, veneers and dentures.: Unless you want your smile to flash your arrival like a blinking neon sign, be sure their color is no whiter/brighter than the white of your eyes.
