Re: how risky is it to remove an implant crown?

Hi,
I just got four implants and individual crowns on my top four front teeth. My dentist told me the only way to get the crowns off now would be to cut them in half. They then can be taken off much easier.
Naturally, this destroys the crown completely and there is no hope to reuse it. A complete new crown and abutment would need to be made.
As long as your implant has fully integrated with your bone and doesn't have bone loss around it, my understanding is that it's as stable as any regular tooth would be, even with a short implant.
The one thing my dentist did was place a small cotton plug at the base of the abutment screw in case the crown ever had to come off. This protects the screw and makes it easier to just unscrew the abutment from the implant when the crown is cut off.
Hope this helps.
My best to you,
Gellia
