Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?
Posted by Sammi on 4/23/2012, 2:13 am
I am calling my dentist this week to talk to her, and I think I have all of my questions in order, but I just want to make sure.
First of all, I work in the veterinary field, and whenever I hear the words "I saw on the internet that..." come out of a client's mouth I'm at the point where I want to vomit. That being said, the easiest place to do research these days is the internet...so...on to my questions!
-I have no dental insurance (but I'm under the impression that most insurance companies do not cover implants anyway - is that correct??), so I was thinking that if I were to get an implant, I would definitely need to use a flipper (btw, I believe the tooth I need removed is #20, a premolar on the bottom left; sorry, used to dog and cat mouths!) while I save up for the crown. Is this logical (that amount of time)? Honestly, I have no idea how long it might take me to save the ~$1k a crown would cost, maybe up to a year.
-Once this tooth has been extracted, the hole really would not be very visible when I smile. I've lost the crown a couple of times, so from personal experience, the gap doesn't seem to be noticeable to anyone but myself. Because I look at my stupid face in the mirror every day and know when something's off :-) Should I even bother with a flipper? Is it medically necessary in my situation...? It would be nice to put that money towards the crown instead.
-I'm 25 and really bummed about needing an implant already; my teeth look perfect from the outside, but I have so many fillings that I've lost count. Any other young people out there who can tell me to suck it up and that I'm not the only one? Or something??
-And my most important question: to those of you who have implants, what is something you WISH you had known before starting the process? I'm not worried about pain (pretty used to it. ugh.), but I am worried about potentially having to drink protein shakes for 5 weeks straight...or something.
Thank you in advance!!
