Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?

Hi, Melissa . . .
Just curious . . . bu have you or he considered an implant to replace that tooth?
I'm not a dental professional, so don't know if so much bone has been damaged or lost that an implant might not be feasible; but since he's talking "bone graft" who knows?
However, your description of your dental history brought back memories of my own. I was in my early teens (around 13 or 14) when I developed a severe abscess in my top, left incisor — so bad, that the dentist my parents sent me off to see felt a root canal was the only solution. But when the novacaine did not take, he proceeded without it! Then sent me home alone on a city bus (in tears all the way.)
20 years later, one of my kids (still a toddler at the time, playing on the floor next to me, ) stood up unexpectedly and bumped the top of his head into the bottom of my chin. Although it wasn't apparent at the time, a few days later my dentist discovered that bump had fractured my tooth from the middle of the front, vertically all the way up to the tip of the root and surrounding bone. It took him 6-7 hours, but miraculously, he managed to rescue the tooth with a post and crown that survived for another 25 years, by which time the surrounding bone could no longer support the post and crown.
Luckily for me, by then, implants were just becoming readily available in the U.S. and I was a suitable candidate.
Although it's hard for me to believe, August will mark 9 years since it was placed, but I would get one again in a heartbeat. It's more like a natural tooth than the post and crown ever could be, and a heck of a lot less trouble than that root canaled tooth.
