Looking for info on choosing a Cosmetic Dentist?
Posted by John K on 7/6/2012, 12:28 pm, in reply to "booked a consultation for this weekend.."
Hi guys, i meant to post an update earlier but ive
just got back from holiday. I had my consultation, i
must say the whole thing felt very rushed and the
place was only open until midday on a Saturday and it
seemed everyone was eager to get home, because of this
i wasnt really able to ask all the things i wanted to.
The dentist looked at my teeth and said that because
the enamel was so thin on the front 4 teeth that she
would have to use crowns instead of veneers ( my NHS
dentist had already told me similar) plus she said the
back teeth with the fillings would have to be crowns
as well. (I didnt get a chance to ask why, can you not
put veneers on teeth with fillings?) She said she
could use 2/3 or 3/4 veneers (forget which) on the
incisors but wouldnt reccomend it as these are the
teeth that get the most impact and its most likely for
a veneer to fall of on these teeth. So basically
crowns all round of which she would use either emax or
procera which are £500 each.
One thing she did say which ive not read anywhere
during my research is that 1 out of every 3 teeth on
average that get this work done will need root
treatment at some time in the future, which would
render the tooth dead. have you guys heard this
before? is it really this common?
one question i did ask was would she use coloured
cement to hide the yellow colour of my natural teeth
shining through and she said no because my teeth are a
light shade of yellow it wont be needed. I asked
"would they not be noticable underneath, especially in
strong sunlight and she said no, the only way you
would see the natural tooth underneath is if something
happened to it and it died and darkened. This had me
thinking afterwards, by her own words wont this happen
to 1 in 3 of my teeth eventually then?
I did ask the patient coordinator afterwards if I
could see some photos of similar work carried out by
the dentist, she replied, "no problem" and came back
with a large hardback book showing lots of amazing
before and after photos. Only thing is after about a
minute I realised it was work by other dentists around
the world she was showing me! not long after this i
basically left. what do you guys think?
