thank you very much for doing that mike as im lucky to get pictures in email.some day i need to put all my pictures on this computer so i can use them. leland the hog in the picture on my back was a nightmare. he was i wanna say 225 or maybe 200 as its been a while but the picture makes him look small, but i packed it after guttin it for about a mile so trust me it was not as little as it looks lol. we heard molly bay up at the edge of a big flat and just before a big brushy hillside starts. dean and went one way and scott and ed went the other way which put them ahead of us but we wanted to cover both directions if the hog broke. scott had deans little catchdog brownie and ed nesmith had diesel ( a great ab)but diesel had never been on a hog before at this time except for a cd1.oh and this was night time also when we were hunting. we heard it get ruff then the bay broke and we heard nothing. as dean and i got to where the bay had been there was brownie layed out cut down a leg real bad and at minimum done for the night as she was bleedin bad and the leg was done.scott had somehow let her go early and she had caught and got whooped and then the hog broke. we had scott stay with brownie and when we got up to the hill they started bayin again and then we saw crow and he was limpin and cut also and tryin to get thru briars to the fight. so we leashed him up and dean took him and we on to the bay.molly and the 2 rat terriers were on him in a nasty brush patch. i told ed to hold diesel as this was a bad one and i didnt want him grabbin petey or another dog or also goin in first as he might not grab tight etc. i turned petey loose and the hog caught him comin in and knocked him flyin over my head and then the hog broke. i grabbed for petey when he hit the ground but he was after bacon and was gone. molly couldnt find the hog and the rats barked a few times but then lost him. so now we had one dog possibly diein, one dog cut bad and my bulldog runnin loose, not a good deal. dean and ed went back down with crow to care for him and molly as i told ed i didnt want to risk his green dog alone as petey might allready be dead crippled or lost.ed didnt like it but i sure didnt want to tell his wife i caused her dog to die or get lost due to bein overzealous. right away the 2 rats came back to me and i radioed dean to call em in and they went to him. i walked around that hill for about 20 minutes when i heard brush break. i called for petey and nothing, so i got closer and then heard brush break and also low deep gutteral noises, so i quietly told them on the radio i had found em and be prepared for me to shoot if need be . i snuck in and in a mess of briars rocks and 2 downed trees was petey holdin the boar by the nose, nose to nose. i crawled on a down tree and reached down and put my pistla right between the hogs shoulder blades and ended the ordeal. i called on the radio and said it was over and petey seemed ok and to send help to drag this thing out of there.we got petey and the hog down to the flat gutted it. and then started the pack out me with the hog and scott with brownie and crow followed the bunch limpin along.we got back to town and i did surgery on crow and then brownie and i didnt want to spend time etc on brownie to just have her die a few minutes later.there was something cut loose in her leg and i told dean i think its more than i can do correctly, but he said just cut it gary and if it dont work it dont work. i had got the bleedin stopped allready and cut the piece off and then started stapelin muscles etc back together. brownie hunted a few times after that but deans son said she was too close to him and after seein her that night with me workin on her he retired her and is actually still alive today at i wanna say over 15 years old. crow became a great dog but was later stolen from deans kennels. molly was a great strike dog and hunted many years for us and died of old age. both the rat terriers we had that night were later killed by bad boars and ya know about petey.and ed and i had some kind of weeds or briars that made our hands kinda numb for 2 days after that hunt. as for the hog, he was served in many variations at the next las vegas aba show after the hunt. gary
