now that can change from person to person and then from situational needs at different times also.lots of variables. like some folks feel any dog that is a ncl carrier is not breed worthy, while others of us feel ncl is just a part of the puzzle and can be bred around. myself , i have typically considered a dog breed worthy if they pass hips, of course have what i feel is a decent or above temperment, and have something beneficial to add to the breeds gene pool. but my last/ recent breeding i used two individuals that had neither hips checked, nor were they tried on hogs. but had what i consider good temperments and the male is one i bred and and know what he was from etc etc. i needed to do a breeding with this male or loose what ive done over the last 14 years. otherwise i wouldnt have done this breeding. after the pups were born i tested parents and pups for ncl( mother by bloodline should be clear and father was a coin flip) father came back carrier and mom clear and 5 of the 6 pups came clear.van hooses/souzas koa is a well respected dog and stud. he had certified hips, did well in conf , excelled at sch style protection, yet was a ncl carrier, carrier of ichtyiosis and and was never tested on hogs, yet i considered him very breed worthy .my old petey dog was bred once, and i felt he was worthy of the breeding as it was done to produce real catchdogs . petey was not hip tested and was confromationally funky but produced a nice litter that did great at what i wanted from the breeding. however i felt peteys belly brother buster was all around more breed worthy and he was the dog i used to further my line if you can call it that. buster had good temp, decent conforamtion, gigantic teeth, great hip scores and could bang a decoy or a hog very well. guess it all depends on what you want in the breed/each breeding. clear as mud ,lol. gary
