Thanks so much for all of the helpful responses. I bought the ab as a pup from a very well known breeder - Joshua Kennels. The dog certainly wasn't cheap either, but on the other hand it's also been a great dog for us - we have her just a family/house pet. It really sucks about the hip dysplasia but we're very committed to the dog and will do whatever we have to make sure they live a long, pain-free life.
