J. Bell,
I did not say MOW was a blue pit. I said there was no MOW at all. MOW is a myth. I said Doc's Pete was out of Couterier's Blue Max II, who was a blue Am Staff/Patrick gamedog cross. I also said I did not know what was on the bottom side of Doc'c Pete pedigree. Could be another Am Staff cross, or maybe a AB. Your guess is as good as mine.
As far as the coloring goes, There was lots of that Silver brindle. That was the same color Couterier's Blue Max II was. He was not a solid blue dog. Alot depends on what was on the other side on Doc's Pete's ped? If it was an AB, the percentage of blue dog in Pete would be down to 1/4, as Max was just a cross anyway. I believe Casey's claim was he just sold Gerald one dog, so whatever Gerald crossed Pete with was from somewhere else. Those could be your Mastiff, or Bullmastiff/pit crosses. In Landshark's case, I believe she was just a straight Mississippi catch weight pit. That would bring the percentage of blue pit down 1/8 in the resulting progeny. That is not a significant percentage to genetically dominate. Gerald, and breeders of that stock after him, were not selecting for color, as was the case with the Litchart black bulldog scheme. Most of Gerald's stuff was further outcrossed with other lines subsequently, further diluting the Blue Max II influence. That is why we do not see many blue dogs down off Gerald's stuff.
