If you have a dog/dogs that can do what ever they are bred to do ,Run,catch,Hunt etc as long as they live you have a good dog/s.
Hip scores were started to tell us what the future will bring when you have a young dog.
So you will know ahead of time...Or know how to breed it! You don't want to breed Bad to worse!
Although Great to Great don't always throw Great!
Its Just a Breeding Tool!
Not all OFA Excellent dogs should be bred!
The Problem is some
lines,
type's,
body type,
Strains,
Families of dogs,
etc
What ever you want to call them, seem to fall apart meaning at one point or another have problems when not Good.
My believe is its better to have dogs out of lines that can still perform when Not perfect, then dogs out of Perfect hips that cant when not....
To me its just that simple! 
Show me a picture of a Southern farmer wearing scratch pants and a sleeve and then I will believe you when you say these dogs were originally bred for bite work.
