This to me is such an easy fix, although, doing and saying is different. Check all dogs and breed only great hipped dogs. Its funny, that when we talk about eye color, the solution is, to breed to eye color. Then keep the good eye color dogs. When breeding for size, we breed to size. Does that mean, that when we breed two big dogs, that all are going to be big? No, but you keep the big one for your breeding program, Hence adding size. I think everyone knows this. But when it comes to hips, what's the saying? Out of sight out of mind. I wish that registries' would require hip checks. Folks, if we don't start checking hips, what will our breed be like in fifty years? If the hips are getting worse, at some point, we will change breeds. Yes, dogs with bad hips can work. Will the hips get worse and worse until that's not the case? As a breeder, I really don't want to replace half of the dogs I sell. As buyers, People don't want to pay money for dogs that will brake down. Can any one else see the end to our breed? That's why I check all my dogs. That's why some breeders don't want to sell to me. That's why, I have taken four years to finally have a breedable Female. I surly can't do it alone. we are all tied together. I have to outcross. At some point you will have to outcross. I would love to, one day, see a four or five generation pedigree with all dogs hip scored being the norm. That is my hope.
