We have used this Motorola part for many years. Sometimes the Microchip socket leads become deformed and this will break the connection and cause the circuit to fail. Also, the chip leads themselves can become damaged. These types of problems can occur do to repeated chip removable and installation. However, I have yet to see the chip fail due to an actual internal problem. That's really quite amazing. Richard worked with these parts many years too. He might cast some light on this.
