I know what you mean on the 2-cent, These old coppers are had to clean and wear down quickly.
I found this coin in a dry river beside an old ferry crossing, I guess the sand and water over the years acts like a rock tumbler which may explain most of the wear. Water runs through here about 6-7 months out of year, Exposing the sand for us to detect in the late fall and early winter mostly for gold jewelry.
