Me too, Paul, I never did quit learning some new kinks with the adjustments the Goldtrax is capable of. I remember the manual saying something about not playing around with the speed adjustment for the automatic ground tracking system unless you were a "Professional". I found out I wasnt a professional because everytime I changed it from the preset speed, I got all screwed up.
Since I moved here to central Texas in 2000, where the ground has very low negative minerals, I just never had much reason to play around with all the adjustments available except getting the ground balance right and sometimes lowering the speed of the autotune. The autotune speed seems set for nugget hunting conditions and I usually like slower speeds for coins and jewelry.
By smoothing out the AM mode, you should be able to clean up on all that birdshot.
And I swear I have went way, way back into some of that western country where it didnt look no other human beings had ever been, lowered my detector coil to the ground and, BEEP, come up with a boot tack. Those old prospectors really got around without benefit of air conditioned SUV's, ATV's, or dirt cycles and dropping boot tacks all over that gold country.
