Saw a post on one of the Findmall forums about the Sanborn map website and thought I'd post something about it here. Most of you may already use the Sanborn maps for research (I've had it bookmarked for around 10 years) but if not it's an excellent way to find where schools, churches or other places were located in cities and towns from 80 to 110 years ago. The maps are only of U.S. towns and since all but maybe 4 of us posting here live outside the U.S. it won't be any help to most, but there quite a few who don't post but do read the forum who might benefit from them. It's at http://sanborn.umi.com/cgi-bin/auth.cgi?command=ShowLogin and requires putting in a password (Residence) and user name (Welcome). I also put a page up at the link below that lets anyone access the maps just by clicking "Submit". Give it a try, you just might find a good detecting site
. The photos were grabbed from two different early 1900 maps of Kerrville, TX, (Jbirds hometown) and show where the public schools and a religious academy were located. If those sites are accessible there's likely a few old coins still there
.
