I meet one of my hunting buddies early last night at a local lake and again this afternoon at a local river, We've done well at both of these areas for several years now and with swimming season just starting we braved the cold water and found a few good targets. We've always used Pi's and last year I was experimenting with different VLF detectors in disc mode and found the Goldtrax and my Goldscanner Pro did ok in fact better than our other VLF detectors, But they still couldn't quite break through the mineralization in disc mode like our Pi detectors can...What I didn't know back then or even try was using all metal instead of disc mode, Had I used all-metal last year on the GoldTrax and Compass GoldScanner Pro I would have seen the fantastic results I am now experiencing today. We have tough soil in and around fresh water lakes especially up higher in the mountain areas, Which always forces us back to using a Pi. The good part is we've been doing this so long with our Pi's we've pulled out most of the iron signals up in the fresh water lakes, Rivers are different because there is always a constant flow of water moving/shifting targets around so fresh iron signals will always be a constant problem.
Here's a view of the river, Swimming season is just around the corner and soon will be in full swing. Right now we're getting last years targets stirred up from the fresh slow moving water coming down the mountains and recent fresh drops from swimmers brave enough to swim in the cold water.
(Above) My Baron with CoinTrax slipped inside a backpack, Perfect setup avoiding any chance of getting the detector wet and allows me to detect just above my waist or a bit higher. With last nights and today's results the CoinTrax all-metal mode punches a clear signal straight through the mineralization with ease, It was like using a Pi only with discrimination. Sure it was fooled with some iron signals and allot of rusty bottle caps but the main thing is it punches through the mineralization without the masking effect other VLF detectors experience, I think the Goldtrax all-metal will fare the same as the Cointrax so here is another possible detector that will do well as a fresh water detector in poor mineralization.. The Excalibur, Sovereign and even the mighty Explorer have problems in these mineralized areas, The masking effect is too much.
Well, Can't say I didn't dig my share of trash Most of these were deep and they fooled me, Once I brought them to the surface then my CoinTrax read the rusty ones as iron.
The smaller gold ring is 10K and the ladies diamond earring is a real diamond, My friend tested it with his diamond tester and it's the real deal.
Here's another ring I forgot to post with the other finds, Large mans silver ring from the river. Well, From yesterdays and today's water detecting convinces me the CoinTrax all-metal setup will be my future VLF water detector Sorry about the long post, Paul (Ca)
