Thanks Eric, I was going to hold off on this information but since only a handful of locals know of this area I'll go ahead and post a short story of this area, This river has an interesting history going back to the 1850's. The area was once a major ferry crossing, later becoming part of the 1858 Butterfield stage line. During the 1850's the town was once robbed and the bandits escaped to an old abandon Spanish mine about 30 miles to the east, It is here they hid later moving on further Northwest to the coastal region. Which accounts for relics surfacing from time to time, My best find from here is a 2-cent piece but I recently heard from a friend that a cache of gold coins had been discovered a few years ago beside the tree pictured below. About the only gold we get from here is gold jewelry from the swimmers but it sure would be exciting if one of those cache gold coins surfaces
