When I bought the A&S from George Fatizzi it already had external pots for ground balance and threshold. It had a 500 ohm pot, same as the internal trim pot on the Barons, but wouldn't balance anywhere near neutral here. I changed the pot to a 1K, then a 2K with the same results, it wouldn't balance even close to neutral. Put a 5K in and it would balance neutral, barely, at some places but still quite a bit too positive at most of the places here.
I exchanged a couple of emails with Mr Bill about the A&S ground balance and he suggested trying a 10K pot. I found a new single turn 10K pot in a box of electronic stuff I had stuck back this morning and put it in the A$S, then tried it out at several places. With the pot adjusted to the fully negative side it actually balanced a tiny bit negative at a couple of the places, neutral at a couple and a little positive at the others so hopefully I'm fixed up now. I also replaced the mode switch on the Cointrax and since I have the A%S mounted upside down and, according to Jbird, bassackwards, I flipped the mode switch over when I replaced the pot. The mode switches on the Barons aren't the best quality and tend to get sticky after using them awhile. I've replaced the switch on the Cointrax three times since I've had it, twice on the Goldtrax, once on the A&S and it really needs replacing now as it sticks in the retune position about half the time. I bought 10 of the mode switches five or six years ago and counting the two or three I gave to folks on the forums I've used all of them except one. Photo is my A&S, it's still mounted on a Sovereign upper pole with a Fisher lower pole but Kevin fussed about the "shitty green" Garrett armrest so I put the black Sovereign armcups back on it
