The base baron is very sensitive, and has excellent depth, but it's somewhat different from most detectors in that the disc mode sensitivity is factory set at maximum. The "Sensitivity" or "Power" knob, in addition to turning the detector on and off, is actually a disc mode threshold adjustment. That makes it noisy when the power knob is set at or near maximum at places with lots of targets. Setting it at a mid range level won't cost depth, if you have fairly good hearing, but it should make the signals lower in volume and easier to listen to. Turning the the iron reject on will cause somewhat of an increase in masking, but if you're hunting where the signals are basically nonstop you probably won't see much, if any, difference.
