I had the Goldtrax, a cointrax, and a Viper(a version of the basic baron made for kellyco) and a pro-hunter version plus all the add on modules at one time. The Goldtrax was my pick of the bunch but the Viper earned second place because of its ease of use and the adjustable knotch feature. I have had lots of fun with the Viper because it has a KELLYCO decal on the side of it. When I belonged to the local coin club, I would take the Viper and when I found something I would hoot and holler about how good them Kellyco detectors were and get dirty looks from the dedicated Whites and Garret hunters who predominated the club.
And Mr. Bill, I sold the cointrax precisely because of the reasons you mentioned........adjustments too complicated for comfortable use. Those adjustment sequences seemed like an afterthought to the basic design of the cointrax. The goldtrax was a much better thought out design.
I agree that the basic baron with external ground balance, threshold and variable knotch would be a good machine with sales potential. I would prefer a seperate battery box located under the armrest to better balance the detector.
