I guess that's what threw me for a loop when I first got this thing. The original Cointrax manual states: "Other than turning the unit on, none of the other controls are operational. The Audio Range, GND, Salt, and the DISC/ID are now controlled with the menu system of the Cointrax ID module."
If the switch only offsets the accept/reject point I suppose it would be OK the have it in either position and adjust accordingly. But I don't want to lose depth by having it set wrong. Air tests show no depth difference but what about mineralized ground? Where do you keep yours and do you have enough adjustment range available at the knob?
Now that I know that the original controls are functional another level of confusion is added to my rather limited knowledge.
It's a long learning curve but worth it I can tell.
