I've not tried a Baron on the MS and Florida gulf coast beaches but I've tried several single frequency detectors down there and non of them would handle the wet sand or in the water, but Bill said they worked well on the salt beaches up there. Speaking of batteries, there's a Dollar Tree store in Tupelo that sells Memorex brand batteries at a bargain. Two 9 volts for a dollar, also 8 AA's for a dollar. My wife and her sisters go shopping up there every couple of weeks and I have her pick up a couple of packs when I start getting low on them. The initial voltage is higher than Energizers or Duracels and they seem to last about as long, but even if they only lasted half as long they're a helluva lot cheaper to use than the higher priced batteries. I've been using them in all my detectors for over a year with no problems.
