I was looking at the photos of the stuff I found with the SST and it hit me what the rusty iron thing in the bottom right corner of the photo is. I found that stuff at a homesite where a pre Civil War antebellum house was until 50-60 years ago. It's a band that held the forearm to the barrel of a musket. Half of the circle where the ramrod went through was broken off and while I was curious as to what purpose it served it was just a rusty piece of iron and I didn't make any effort to find out what it was. Worthless, but would have kept it instead of trashing it if I had known what it was.
