Recently, My old Whites two box TM-800 was giving me problems and with relic season here needed something I could rely on when searching surroundings areas of old foundations. A good deal on a Discovery TF-900 surfaced on one of the classifies, Couldn't pass it up so bought the machine and figured I could swap loops from the TF-900 to the TM-800 to see if this was the problem with the TM-800. Turns out the selector switch (battery check/all-metal/cave mode) was the TM-800 problem, for some reason both the all-metal mode and cave mode operate in all-metal so it no longer has a cave/tracer mode. But that's ok since I mostly use it for all-metal detecting. It's a minor problem and I have a busted TF-900 somewhere in the garage so I can remove that selector switch and use it for the TM-800, And the TF-900 I just received works find. Only a few realize both the Whites TM-800 was actually made by Discovery, And is the same machine as the Discovery TF-900. The TM-800 is not to be mistaken as the TM-808, Both are completely different types of detectors with the TF-900 and TM-800 having both a slow and fast SAT speed, The TM-808 only has one SAT speed and of course a non-motion as do the TF-900 and TM-800. Well, Here are both side by side with minor facial differences mostly with the speaker cover. Both have smooth operating performances for different types of terrain, Something about having two-box somehow brings out the treasure hunter in some including me. Paul (Ca)
