Initially it's pre-set, but once you start sweeping the coil, the circuit ground tracks automatically. For the most part it's turn on & go operation.
JB has a lot of experience with the SST. He can give you a depth answer compared to the std Baron.
Ricky Crowder has been using the SST in NC, and he told me he felt it did as well as his Baron.
It's a real nice detector overall.
