The SST has good depth, a little shy of what the Cointrax can do but it's at least equal to the A&S and Goldtrax in disc mode. Initially I assumed it wouldn't do that well as Roy at Discovery told me on the phone that it was based on the Newforce CS5-ZX that was a joint effort between Discover and C-Scope. I had a CS5-ZX right after they were released and 5 inches or so is all it would do on an inground dime, but well after I let the 5ZX go George Payne told me it had a jumper on the board that could be cut to increase the depth. The SST has a position on the sensitivity dial that bypasses the jumper and allows it to go deeper. I got a Barber dime with the SST a little over 6 inches deep, a wheatie at almost 8 inches and an early clad quarter that was between 8 and 9 inches down, all while using the 5.5 inch coil and in places Jim and I have hunted numerous times with a lot of detectors that were supposed to be depth demons
. You can probably tell I was impressed with the SST. I was. Especially the light weight and audio, which I think is the best audio of any detector I've used. Link is to what I posted on here and also put on my website.
